Theatre Wakefield’s newest heritage animation play "A Summer… A Fair" brings history life this summer against the backdrop of a traditional “picnic” (country fair), common in the region’s farming communities from the 19th century onwards. The production, including live music and square dancing, premieres at the original site of the famous Cantley Picnic, the St. Elizabeth Parish grounds in Cantley on Saturday, July 22, 2017.
Created with the help of local elders and heritage experts from Cantley 1889, the play combines local history, amusing stories and characters from the community’s rural past, and rousing songs and music performed by the cast. After the July 22nd launch, the production will go on to tour at least 11 other communities across the Outaouais, and will end its tour at the Centre Wakefield-La Pêche on September 10.
