Mystery object from Hull...

Might have found something of interest.
It looks like an office door nameplate.
It reads: "The Equity. EB Eddy Co. Hull Quebec."

Maybe tell me what it is.

"Hi there,
The Equity is a newspaper out of Shawville. Since there is a slot on the left side of this object, it might well be a mail slot."
