
Founded in 1992 as a result of the merger of the Société historique de l’Ouest du Québec (SHOQ) and the Institut d’histoire et de recherché sur l’Outaouais (IHRO), the mission of the Société d’histoire de l’Outaouais is: to promote, for the benefit of all, resources relating to the history and heritage of the Outaouais; to collect and acquire, for purposes of classification and conservation, works, manuscripts, and artifacts relating to the history, oral or written, natural or human, of the region; to conduct research, for documentation or publication, into the history and heritage of the region; to educate the public about the human history and heritage of the region (through courses or conferences); to maintain links with all other organizations working for the same ends; to act as a spokesman to educate the public about the history and heritage of the region.
